At Making Music, the UK’s number one organisation for voluntary music, we thrive on encouraging all kinds of music groups and individuals to be part of a vibrant multi-cultural music scene. We're here to help everyone flourish in their music making.

We fight for the best deals and provide the expertise, networks and support you need to set up, run and thrive as a voluntary music group.

Our services fall under three categories: weinfluence on your behalf, we develop and support you, and we connect you to each other and to experts.

1. Influence

We engage in lobbying and advocacy on behalf of our members and the voluntary music sector as a whole – 3,000 voices together are powerful, join us to make us even stronger.

2. Develop and support

We offer a wide range of practical services, including:

  • specially designed and highly competitive insurance cover,
  • over 60 information sheets and other resources on a variety of subjects,
  • support & advice via phone, email and in person,
  • training & seminars, on, for instance, how to promote yourselves and your events, how to develop your audiences & membership, and how to fundraise,
  • subscription to our member magazine, Highnotes
  • project and broadcast opportunities
  • and much more!

Our very popular and highly competitive insurance scheme, provided by Making Music Insurance Services and underwritten by Royal & Sun Alliance (RSA), are tailormade for voluntary music groups, providing public liability, employers’ liability, trustee indemnity, event cancellation, property and money cover, with optional add-ons for buildings, travel and any other requirements at special rates.

Our new Musical Households Insurance for individual members similarly provides a tailored solution, and also includes European-wide cover away from home and in locked vehicles.

Even if you add them together, membership subscription and insurance premium usually cost less than the cost of a comparable insurance policy elsewhere: most groups save money simply by joining us and that's before they have looked at the other fantastic services we provide!

3. Connect

We bring you together with experts in the field, your peers and Making Music staff and volunteers, locally, online and at events around the UK.
