Keeping in Touch volunteers play a key role in keeping someone who is living with dementia connected by providing a tailored, friendly, proactive support service.

 

What’s involved?

You will be contacting people who have used the Side by Side service, providing a telephone based follow up service.

  • You will be making ‘Keeping in touch’ calls to people living with dementia.  These calls follow up with people in their dementia journey.  The calls check in, ensure tht people living with dementia are supported, connected and enabled.
  • You will be making calls using a user friendly IT system; full training and support will be provided
  • You will provide information, make referrals, signpost and enable people to access the support they need in a way that's right for them.
  • Provide a friendly voice, support and encouragement via telephone.
  • Liaise with your manager, the Volunteer Leader and other appropriate Society colleagues.
  • Keeping up to date with knowledge of the Alzheimer’s Society policies and procedures and provide a robust volunteer service in accordance with these

 

This role will suit you if you…

  • Are passionate about supporting people with dementia to improve their quality of their lives
  • Believe that people should be enabled and empowered
  • Enjoy making telephone calls and are able to follow guidance from colleagues
  • Want to develop your IT skills
  • Have good verbal communication and listening skills, especially on the phone
  • Are a perceptive, emotionally intelligent person; able to read tone of voice and empathise.
  • Want to help people with dementia to live well.
  • Know about, or are willing to learn about dementia and its impact on people.
  • Recognise the importance of confidentiality, and show this in practice.
  • Are keen to provide a high standard of service for people living with Dementia
  • Are comfortable with following policies, procedures and guidance and have the ability to volunteer within service boundaries.
  • Are committed to inclusion and treating people from all backgrounds with dignity.

 As part of the role, you will be supported by your manager, and receive quality training, guidance and support to develop your role.  You will need to undergo an induction into the role, to attend necessary training and similar learning activities which will help you in your role.

‘Keeping in touch’ (KIT) telephone calls are an exciting new part of the Alzheimer’s Society’s offer for people living with dementia. Keeping in touch volunteers will play a key role in keeping someone who’s living with dementia connected and ensuring that their needs at met. Our volunteers provide a friendly, tailored proactive telephone based follow up service. They take a personal, warm and engaging approach to task and are a key aspect of on-going person centred support.
