Where, when and how often?

Group Leader Volunteers lead on the facilitation of our weekly East Belfast Memories Café on Thursdays from 10:30am – 1pm in East Belfast Community Development Agency at 55 Templemore Ave, Belfast BT5 4FP.

What will I be doing?

Our East Belfast Memories Café provides a safe, comfortable and supportive environment for people with dementia and their carers to get together and socialise, receive information and share experiences. Group Leaders bring their organisation and facilitation skills to enable people affected by dementia to engage and socialise with other group members in a welcoming and non-judgmental environment.

Is this role for me?

The role may be suitable if you:

 - Have excellent facilitation and verbal communication skills especially face to face;

- Have experience of group work and leading and supporting people to engage in meaningful activity;

- Have confidence and enthusiasm;

- Have a good understanding about dementia and its impact on people and/or a willingness to develop this knowledge and understanding;

- Are willing to volunteer with a team of other volunteers and employees;

- Have an understanding of the importance of confidentiality and can demonstrate this;

- Have a commitment to inclusion, treating people from all backgrounds with dignity;

- Have the ability to volunteer within service boundaries;

- Are committed to providing a high standard of service;

- Are comfortable following policies, procedures and guidance;

- Are willing to learn about, and be committed to, the Society's values and behaviours; and

- Are prepared to complete an induction into the role and attend relevant learning and development activities and support meetings.  

How will I be supported during my volunteering?

Alzheimer's Society is committed to supporting volunteers in whatever role is carried out. For this role, you will be supported by the local Cafes Coordinator. You will receive relevant induction and training for the role. You also will be provided with one-to-one and/or group based support and will be reimbursed your agreed out-of-pocket expenses, in accordance with Society policy.
