Consumer Council encourages consumers to check if they are on the best energy deal

The Consumer Council is encouraging households to check if they are on the best deal for their electricity. This follows Budget Energy’s decision to remove, or reduce, discounts on some of their existing tariffs.

For some customers this will add up to a 19% increase, or £81 per year, to the electricity bill of consumers on Budget Energy’s discount tariffs.

Richard Williams, Head of Energy at the Consumer Council said, "In light of Budget Energy's decision to remove, or reduce, its discounts for new customers immediately and for existing customers from the 30 December 2016, we would encourage consumers to use our online energy price comparison tool and “Switch On” guides to see what the best deal is for them.”

Richard added “Based on other suppliers current offers, an average household using a Budget Energy standard keypad tariff could save almost £100 per year, and a standard direct debit consumer almost £130 per year by switching to a cheaper supplier.

For further information or advice on switching energy supplier contact the Consumer Council on freephone 0800 121 6022, email [email protected] or via facebook and twitter.

Saving includes cash incentive/bonus offered by other suppliers. Consumers should always check their existing Terms and Conditions to ensure they are not subject to a termination penalty.
