Charity Commission launches equality consultation

The Charity Commission, the new independent regulator of Northern Ireland charities, is consulting on its first Equality Scheme and Action Plan. The Commission is firmly committed to promoting and supporting equality and diversity in its regulatory work.

The equality scheme and plan set out how the Commission proposes to fulfil its Section 75 statutory equality duties, and its Section 49A disability duties.

The Commission is firmly committed to promoting and supporting equality and diversity in regulating the estimated 7,000 – 10,000 Northern Ireland charities. The Commission is keen to hear the views of a wide range of organisations and individuals before the plan and scheme are signed off.

The consultation provides an opportunity to influence and inform this important piece of work.

The consultation period is running for a period of 13 weeks ending on Friday 08 June 2012.

You will find links to the Equality Scheme and Action Plan, the Audit of Inequalities, and summary documents on the Charity Commission’s website:
