Bar Council advocates for local charities, Barnardo's NI and Action on Hearing Loss NI

The Bar Council of Northern Ireland today presented cheques for just over £38,000 to their 2013 Charities of the Year, Barnardo’s Northern Ireland and Action on Hearing Loss.

Fundraisers from both charities, Sharon Craig and Leona McEvoy, who donned the traditional court dress, attended to receive the funds from the Bar Charity Chairman, Thomas Fitzpatrick BL.

Speaking at the event, Thomas explained “Each year, the Bar of Northern Ireland endeavours to nominate charities close to the heart of our membership.

Barnardo’s aim that every child deserves the best possible start in life whatever their background, inevitably drew the attention and support of the Bar. Too often, our members contact with children, whether in relation to criminal justice or family proceedings, provides a true insight into the challenges young people face growing up in our society.

In supporting people with hearing loss, educating as to the risks of damage and providing practical solutions and services, Action on Hearing Loss is undoubtedly leading the way in shaping a world where hearing loss doesn’t limit or label people.

Thanking the barristers who contributed supported events throughout the year, Thomas Fitzpatrick “We are very proud of our members who make our fundraising possible. Thanks to them, we’re able to make a difference to local people”.
