Flexible Outreach is an exciting new development within Simon Community NI. Young people with complex needs aged 16 - 19 years will be supported to maintain independent community based accommodation and be able to access support 24 hours a day, 7 days

Reports To: Head of Service: Young People

Salary: Points 29 – 32, £25,646 - £28,150 per annum. A range of additional benefits are also available.

Department: Homelessness Services

Location: Greater Belfast Area: working across a range of communities to support young people. You may also be required to work at other Simon Community sites within reason when operational needs arise.

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week including the requirement to work evenings and weekends. Reasonable hours outside of this may be required to fulfil the duties of this position.

Job Purpose:

The jobholder will case manage young people with complex needs aged 16-19 years old who are living in the community.  As the organisation’s specialist in delivering youth outreach support, the jobholder will be critical in helping to design the model of support which will ensure young people maintain sustainable accommodation and end homelessness for this group.

In addition to case managing the young people accessing the service, the jobholder will also line manage the Flexible Outreach Team (a team of 11 support workers) to ensure a service is available to the clients on a 24 hour and 7 day per week basis.

The jobholder will support the Head of Service to further develop the Flexible Outreach Service.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

1. Third level qualification (diploma/degree) in social work, youth and community work, housing advice or equivalent

And

Three years’ recent full time paid experience of managing services supporting young people with complex needs in a community setting or similar environment

OR

Five years’ recent full time paid experience of managing services supporting young people with complex needs in a community setting or similar environment.

Your experience must include demonstrable evidence of managing services for clients presenting with at least three of the following:

  • mental health problems
  • drug and alcohol issues
  • challenging behaviours
  • history of offending
  • youth homelessness

2. Two years’ experience of budget management and responsibility.

3. Two years recent experience of managing and supervising staff within a similar setting.

4. Demonstrable experience of delivering a case management approach with homeless young people.

5. Demonstrable experience of supporting staff in practice development and implementation of models of practice.

6. Ability to broker relationships with services and develop pathways to enable young people to make and sustain positive change.

7. A good working knowledge of housing, health and social services legislation and services for vulnerable young people.

8. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral.

9. Excellent planning and organisational skills with ability to prioritise workload.

10. Ability to work independently and in line with Simon Community NI’s policies and procedures.

11. Excellent IT skills with proficiency in the use of Microsoft applications.

12. Valid driving licence and access to a car or other form of transport to undertake duties associated with the role.

13. Hold and maintain Northern Ireland Social Care Council registration.
