Salary:              £24,000 per annum (six-month fixed term contract)

Inequalities are widespread and complex and affect many areas of people’s lives. Our renowned independent research programme encompasses a variety of methodologies which we utilize to understand how inequalities affect society and how to address them. We focus on particular themes so we can make the most difference. These are currently: 

    1. Inequality dynamics and change making
    2. Communities
    3. Youth and education
    4. Health and wellbeing 

Our History

The Institute for Community Studies (ICS) was set up by social researcher and innovator Michael Young in 1954. The ICS was an urban studies think tank which combined research and social innovation. In 2005, it merged with the Mutual Aid Centre and was renamed the Young Foundation, in honour of its founder. The Institute of Community Studies and the Young Foundation have together created and supported over 60 organizations including Which?, The Open University, Economic and Social Research Council, Social Innovation Exchange (SIX), School for Social Entrepreneurs, Uprising and the Centre for Justice Innovation.

Job Brief

We are seeking a Social Innovation Programme Worker to join the Young Foundation from January 2017 to be part of our team delivering our exciting Amplify Northern Ireland and Belfast City Council Programmes. The work will focus on Belfast with some travel to Derry/Londonderry and Enniskillen. This role is part of a programme designed to understand inequality in Northern Ireland and to develop innovative asset-based approaches to addressing these issues.

You will work as part of a dynamic Young Foundation team of social innovation, research and community engagement experts and alongside our partners in Northern Ireland. Responsibilities include: engaging local people and organisations and developing networks in the area; supporting the team to deliver innovative engagement and research activities; developing effective marketing and communications initiatives; organising and supporting the team deliver high-impact events in community venues and supporting all research analysis from the core programmes.

There will also be regular meetings in venues across Northern Ireland and occasional training and team building at the Young Foundation office in Bethnal Green, East London.

The role offers:

  • An initial six month full-time contract (with a strong probablility of extension beyond the first six months)
  • A salary of £24,000 plus pension and 28 days holiday per annum
