We have an exciting trainee job opportunity to join the team as Trainee Youth Assistant as part of the RNIB Trainee Grade Scheme.

Salary: £15,865 per annum

RNIB NI Children and Families Service strive to ensure that blind and partially sighted children and young people, aged 25 and under, are able to enjoy the same rights, responsibilities, opportunities and quality of life as those who have full sight. We now have an exciting trainee job opportunity to join the team as Trainee Youth Assistant as part of the RNIB Trainee Grade Scheme.

You will be warmly welcomed into our very busy, energtic and friendly Children Youth and Families Service. 

You will be out and about travelling across Northern Ireland supporting Visual Awareness sessions, fun Day Events and Weekends Away. When not supporting activities, you will be based in RNIB Londonderry office carrying out general administration duties and working as part of a friendly team.

Our Children, Youth and Families Service provides a range of services for blind and partially sighted children and young people and their families. Our team also provide specialised services to those who support them in education, recreation and the wider community.

These include:

  • Children and young people's events and activities
  • Advice, signposting and support for families
  • Training for professionals, such as our sight loss awareness course.

We offer a wide range of activities, including:

  • Family Weekends providing a break for all the family with fun for all the children and information and support for parents.
  • Children's fun and activity days
  • Summer play schemes providing inclusive play opportunities for children with sight loss and information sessions for parents and families
  • Activity days and residential weekends for young people as part of the RNIB Youth Service
  • Training opportunities for young people as part of the RNIB NI's Youth Service

This role requires an enhanced criminal record check which

includes a check of the children's barred list as the post holder will be providing support, advice and guidance which relates to their physical, emotional or educational well-being.

This post is part of the Trainee Grade Scheme (TGS). To be eligible to apply, you need to be unemployed and either blind or partially sighted. Previous trainees and ex-RNIB and Action for Blind People staff are not expected to apply. The position is a fixed term contract of 50 weeks.
