Ballymena Sure Start and Little Steps Sure Start, Antrim provide a range of services to children from pre-birth up to four years and their families. Services consist of both individual and group support.

Services operate from two centres in Ballymena and range of venues in Antrim. Both Sure Starts are targeted on specific electoral wards in Ballymena and Antrim.

Services are delivered through multi-agency & multi-disciplinary teams and work in close partnership with a range of local Statutory, Voluntary and Community groups to provide a needs led approach to the delivery of services in the area. 

 Both Sure Starts aim to -

  • Provide a range of universal preventative, promotional and supportive services to enhance the life chances of young children (0-4 years) and their families
  • Support families in caring for their children through promoting healthy lifestyles and activities that will optimise the child's development before and after birth
  • Improve children's ability to learn by encouraging and modelling stimulating and enjoyable play working towards improving language and social skills and through early identification support children experiencing difficulties and those with additional needs
  • Support parents/significant carers bonding and attachment relations with their children thereby optimising their overall development

 The Sure Start Manager provides operational management for two Sure Start Services - Ballymena Sure Start, which is based on two sites in Ballymena, and Little Steps Sure Start based in Antrim. This role includes:-

  • Management of staff
  • Day to day management of budgets
  • Responsibility for the delivery of monitoring information
  • Lead responsibility in relation to health and safety
  • Responsibility for safeguarding
  • Leading service development
  • Working with Sure Start partners

Essential Requirements:-

  • Degree or equivalent level qualification in the fields of social work, child health, education related to early years, family support work.
  • Registration with relevant professional body
  • Experience and track record (at least 2 years) in developing/managing services for young children in either the statutory or voluntary sector.
  • Experience of working successfully within a multi-agency setting
  • Ability to drive for work purposes and access to a suitable method of transport
  • Ability to travel throughout NI and occasionally to England, Scotland or Wales as required.
