The Western Early Intervention Support Service is designed to provide an integrated approach to assessing and delivering services to families at an early stage when problems arise.

Using a motivational and solution focussed approach the service aims to achieve good outcomes for children by working in partnership with families and other agencies to ensure that work is carried out in a timely way which is responsive to need and focussed on making a positive difference. The age range of children is 0-17 years. The post will be based in our office in Ebrington, L/Derry and services will be provided across both urban and rural surrounding areas.

This is a highly rewarding role where you will be working closely with children and their families, learning about their strengths and challenges and putting together assessment of their needs.

From this you will plan and agree what outcomes can be achieved and what services and opportunities can be provided.

These include group and individual based parenting work and  individual work with children.

You will be a vital member of the team, skilled in providing a high level of professional childcare and social work practice using a wide range of therapeutic interventions that are outcome focused, evidence based and maximise opportunity for change.

You will work with families experiencing complex challenges and be creative in your approaches in engaging families who may be avoidant and resistant to your efforts. You will provide reports to referrers which critically analyse progress and outcomes achieved and which will inform decision making on children's and their families circumstances going forward.

You will be skilled in overcoming the challenges in maintaining and developing effective working relationships with external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for children, young people and their families.

You will support and enhance practice development within the team providing professional developmental support, including supervision, advice and guidance to family support practitioners.

Essential Requirements

CQSW, DipSW or Degree in Social Work equivalent

At least 2 years post qualifying experience in professional social work practice with children, young people and their families including:

Undertaking complex assessments in work with children, young people and their families.

Provision of therapeutic intervention to children, young people and their families.

Desirable Criteria:

Post qualifying experience in provision of supervision and professional developmental support, including advice and guidance to staff.
