Salary £29,500-£34,130 pro rata

The NSPCC wish to recruit a research fellow to support evaluation of the Preventative ‘keeping safe’ Education project in primary schools across Northern Ireland. This project, conducted in partnership with the Department of Education, aims to give children the knowledge and skills to keep them safe from different forms of maltreatment, including bullying, child abuse and domestic abuse. It will focus on building the schools’ capacity to engage and embed effective preventative ‘keeping safe’ education in all aspects of school life. It involves the development, roll-out and evaluation of a comprehensive package of training, development and on-going support for school leaders, teaching and non-teaching staff, and parents across primary and special schools.

A randomised controlled trial design is being used to generate robust evidence with regard to effectiveness in improving children’s knowledge and skills to keep safe in situations of abuse.  A process evaluation will document and track programme implementation in pilot schools to inform further development and learning.

We wish to recruit an experienced researcher, who as part of a committed team will contribute important insight and expertise to the conduct of the process evaluation of Keeping Safe, in particular the collection and robust analysis of high quality implementation data.

The successful applicant will have experience in conducting robust social research, including the use of qualitative, creative and mixed methods approaches to data collection, as well as robust qualitative analysis. Strong project management, inter-personal and team working skills are essential for this post to ensure effective working with a range of project partners and stakeholders.

This post is an exciting professional and personal development opportunity as it provides a significant opportunity to influence Departmental policy with regard to how the wellbeing and welfare of children in our primary schools is promoted and safeguarded.
