About the role
Refugee Support Coordinator posts are responsible for providing front line support to vulnerable asylum seekers and refugees. As a member of the Refugee Support Team, the post holder will undertake a support role to meet the aims of the Orientation Programme in Belfast undertaking a range of service support duties.

In this role you will be responsible for providing an efficient and reliable service. You will coordinate and manage the orientation service which includes the recruiting, inducting and training of volunteers as appropriate. You will provide casework support to vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers and coordinate applications to the family reunion travel assistance programme. You will promote the British Red Cross refugee service to service users and referring agencies. There will also be a focus to liaise with statutory authorities, voluntary groups and other refugee agencies as appropriate on behalf our service users in order that their needs are met

About the team
The Red Cross supports refugees in a wide variety of ways, such as offering emergency food and clothes to those facing severe hardship and offering friendly advice to the most vulnerable.

Services include:

  • Orientation support to help vulnerable and newly arrived refugees adapt to life in a new country
  • Destitution support for refugees and asylum seekers who find themselves cut off from Home Office support or welfare benefits
  • Support for young people and refugee women, including one-to-one social and emotional support to help women to access their basic rights and rebuild their lives
  • Practical care and support in emergency large-scale arrivals


About the person

  • An understanding of and commitment to refugees, asylum seekers, and their communities
  • Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent by experience)
  • Ability to provide good customer services
  • Communication and networking skills and the ability to publicise and promote the refugee project
  • Ability to plan, and to manage own workload effectively
  • Experience of conducting casework interviews and assessments, preferably within the voluntary sector
  • Experience of project coordination
  • Experience of direct work supporting vulnerable individuals
  • Experience of conducting casework interviews and assessments, preferably within the voluntary sector
