To support delivery of a new formal education project called the Global Learning Programme. The post involves developing and implementing a promotions and communications strategy to secure school participation in programme activities.

Summary of Responsibilities

To support delivery of the Global Learning Programme by leading the development and implementation of a promotions and communications strategy with the aim of securing schools’ engagement in the programme activities.  This will involve: liaising with web designers on the construction of a website that supports delivery of programme activities; developing effective and timely communications with schools through appropriate digital and e-communications, literature and mailshots; ensuring consistency of programme branding across all GLP materials; supporting the dissemination and completion of evaluation and monitoring tools; and creating social media platforms to facilitate regular contact with teachers and schools.  The post is part-time and will have a timescale from the date of appointment to 30 November 2017.  The post will be located in the Centre for Global Education.

Specific Duties

  • GLP Web Site: To lead the development and maintenance of a Global Learning Programme (GLP) web site in liaison with a web consultancy agency.  The purpose of the web site will be to: showcase the aims of the GLP; promote GLP activities to teachers and schools; facilitate completion of training registration, evaluations and school audits; enable teacher access to existing global learning resources which meet NI curriculum requirements; and enable teachers to communicate with the project hub.  The web site should lend itself to ‘in-house’ maintenance and the post-holder will be required to post regular updates on programme activities and liaise with external partners in relation to web site content.  The post-holder will be required to explore opportunities with external web sites to promote the project to teachers.  Reports on web site use should be compiled for project stakeholders.
  • Social Media Platforms: To establish and maintain social media accounts for the programme to create an online ‘teaching community’ that can share posts on training, resources and other aspects of GLP delivery.  To use the social media accounts to assist the dissemination of resources and provide opportunities for debate.  The post-holder will ensure these accounts are regularly refreshed with new content. 
  • Promotions and Communications with schools: To assist the GLP Co-ordinator in communications with schools to secure their participation in Global Learning Pogramme activities.  The post-holder will produce electronic and printed materials promoting the programme events.  The materials will be disseminated effectively through partner organizations and key stakeholders.
  • Events: The post-holder will support the planning of GLP events such as conferences, seminars and training days in order to promote or showcase the programme.  This will include administration and communications relating to the promotion, registration, delivery and evaluation of GLP events.
  • Supporting monitoring and evaluation: To assist the GLP Co-ordinator in gathering evidence of the programme’s impact on teachers and pupils by disseminating research instruments to schools and ensuring that they are completed and returned.  The post-holder will also be responsible for the management of effective information storage and management systems including databases of schools and key contacts.
  • To work effectively as part of a programme hub: To work collaboratively within a small project hub established for the delivery of the GLP.  This will involve taking on any additional tasks deemed necessary by the Co-ordinator for the successful completion of programme activities.
  • Reporting: To contribute to quarterly and annual reports to DFID on the information and communication strands of the project and contribute when necessary to meetings of the Programme Management Group.

Timescale and Conditions

Salary                          £20,000 (plus NIC and Pension) (£27,000 pro rata)- this post has been funded by Department for International Development (DFID) from the date of appointment to 30 November 2017, and will have a probationary period of six months.

Pension                       The Centre for Global Education operates a Stakeholder Pension Scheme for employees which will facilitate contributions to a private pension plan from the employer and employee.

Hours                          26 hours per week.  The days worked will be agreed with the post-holder.  It will be necessary on occasion to work outside these hours for which time in lieu will be offered.

Management             Reporting line will be to the Global Learning Programme Co-ordinator.

Annual Leave             18.5 days holiday plus statutory days (with pay).  The holiday period runs from the date of appointment.
