The Red Cross is proud to have a balanced and neutral workforce. We are bound by seven fundamental principles including impartiality, neutrality and independence. We are committed to welcoming people from the widest possible diversity of background, culture and experience.
Since 2004 more than 3.4M in Europe people have been affected by flooding - projections are for this to intensify. Without action, up to half a million additional people will be affected every year by 2080. Those to be most affected are central Europe and the British Isles. The Red Cross has been involved in preparation and response to floods for many years. In early 2014 the Regional Community Resilience Group a multiagency partnership framework for Northern Ireland was set up including the Red Cross to support community engagement work.

We have received funding from the European Commission to develop a response to the gap in relation to the knowledge and ability of urban communities to prepare for, and recover from, floods (community resilience), and will work with Red Cross national society partners in Hungary and Denmark to test the approaches we develop together with international Red Cross specialists in psychosocial support and climate change. Our joint work will help us develop innovative and effective solutions at a community level.

The Project Officer will work directly with the Project Manager, the Project Researcher and Project Finance & Administration Officer to ensure the success of the project.  Educated to A Level or equivalent the post holder will have experience of building and maintaining strong networks and partnerships as you will be primarily externally focussed working with Emergency Planners across Northern Ireland and European partners. Critically the Project Officer will engage with local urban communities affected by flooding therefore it is important that you have the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people.

If you are interested in this role we offer a variety of benefits which range from:
* 36 days Annual Leave (including bank/public holidays)
* Paid Mileage
* Paid Travel
* Pension Scheme
