We are looking for an experienced individual to join us as Policy Advocacy and Campaigns Officer within our NI ProgrammeThe role will support our campaigning and advocacy to improving early learning outcomes, narrowing the gap between poor children and their better off peers.

Our UK and Global Programmes department delivers humanitarian and development programmes, builds partnerships with institutional donors – including governments, multi-laterals and trusts – and drives lasting change. As Policy Advocacy and Campaigns Officer you will:

  • Support and drive policy research in support of Save the Children’s objectives in relation to NI
  • Support development of and implement effective advocacy strategies, bringing creative input, advising on and devising the best tactics to achieve results, contributing to developing positions, messages, lobbying and media plans
  • Support development of and implement effective campaigning strategies, bringing creative input, advising on and devising the best tactics to achieve results, and delivering campaigns
  • Support our external presence in NI and continue to build our external profile and influence policy
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of UK child poverty issues within a country context
  • Ensure that advocacy initiatives and campaigns are informed by the views of children and families
  • Analyse the external policy environment, assessing opportunities to influence the development of government
  • Contribute to drafting campaign materials to a high standard which effectively engages target audiences
  • Build links with campaigning networks and ensure our campaigners and other audiences are informed and engaged in our campaigns
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including politicians, civil servants, statutory bodies, third sector and professional agencies to maximise advocacy on UK child Assist with the development and maintenance of systems for monitoring information and evaluation of impact of advocacy and campaigning activities
  • Support fundraising for our UK work, and for Save the Children more broadly
  • To work safely and with a clear commitment to safeguarding and protecting children from harm, and to comply with all Save the Children policies and procedures as required including the Code of Conduct

To be successful you will have:

  • Good knowledge of UK poverty and in particular the impact on Early Years and Early Learning for children, including an understanding of: education, child poverty or other relevant public policy issues; and understanding of the government and public sector structures relevant to children and families
  • Developed analytical writing skills and the ability to analyse complex data
  • (scientific, technical) and to summarise and communicate this in ways that are accessible to a range of audiences and cultures
  • Ability to assess the political context/policy making environment, identifying opportunities and developing and implementing strategies that offer the optimal chance of influencing policy
  • Ability to work in a participative and empowering way with children and young people and to support them in advocacy and campaigning
