The Department for Communities is seeking to appoint a Chair and a Vice-Chair to the Board of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.

The Housing Executive’s goal is for everyone to have access to decent, affordable housing. As the Chair or Vice-Chair, you will have a key role in working towards this goal and setting the strategic direction for the organisation.

Skills and experience

Applications are welcome from a wide range of people who have an interest in public service, including those with suitable experience gained in the community, voluntary, business or public sectors. No specific qualifications are required with the individuals appointed receiving training and an appropriate induction programme.

Applications from women, people with a disability, young people and people from minority ethnic groups would be particularly welcomed for these positions. We are operating a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for this competition in relation to applicants with a disability.

Essential Criteria

Applicants for the Vice-Chair and Chair positions must be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of governance, finance and public accountability, as well as a range of skills and experience including interpersonal and networking skills, developing policies and strategies, and leadership experience. In addition, applicants for the Chair position will have to demonstrate change management experience.

Appointment and remuneration details

  • The Chair position attracts remuneration of £32,512 per year, plus travel and subsistence allowances. This post will require a commitment of at least 2 days per week for a term of up to 5 years from 1 July 2017.

  • The Vice-Chair position attracts remuneration of £16,150 per year, plus travel and subsistence. This post will require a commitment of at least 1 day per week for a term of up to 5 years from 5 November 2017.
