Nature Protection Policy Officer

Closing date:
28 Feb 2017
Leaving the EU will be one of the most defining events for our environment in living memory, and we want to ensure that there is, as a minimum, no weakening of our nature protection as a result.

This role will ensure there are effective policies and legislation in place for nature protection, especially for a coherent network of well managed protected sites on land and sea.

We are looking for a professional, persuasive and engaging individual who is able to analyse complex issues in a fast-paced environment.  They should have a sound understanding of the policy and legislation for protected areas and species and habitats, primarily the Birds and Habitats Directives (BHD) and relevant UK/NI legislation, but also biodiversity/species policy. They should have the skills and personality to advocate for policy and legislation that will help to ensure our nature is protected, focusing on the creation, expansion, protection and management of our best places for wildlife, against the backdrop of our exit from the EU. The post-holder will work closely with other RSPB staff, especially those involved in campaigning for nature protection, and those providing legal advice.
