The Independent Advocate will provide a comprehensive and confidential advocacy support service in the Southern Trust area to people with learning disabilities.

Disability Action works for the rights of disabled people.  We are a Northern Ireland wide pan disability organisation working with disabled people with various disabilities; physical, mental, sensory, learning and hidden.

 

Disability Action wishes to appoint to the following position: -

 

Independent Advocate (Ref IAN/17)

£24,766 pa / Fixed to December 2018

 

The Independent Advocate will provide a comprehensive and confidential advocacy support service in the Southern Trust area to people with learning disabilities.  The Independent Advocate will undertake one to one work with people with disabilities.  The post holder will utilise their skills and experiences to provide advocacy and short-term support to people with disabilities to deal with specific questions or issues relating to health and social care.

 

The successful applicant must have the following:-

 

  • At least three years experience of delivering advocacy services within the last five years.
  • Accredited Level 2 Award in Independent Advocacy (City and Guilds) or equivalent.
  • A sound knowledge of different advocacy models and their implementation.
  • Competent understanding of Mental Health Legislation and best practice, including guardianship, deprivation of liberty, and best interest welfare interventions,
