An exciting new soft indoor play centre ‘Roar and Explore’ is opening its doors in Belfast in December 2017 and we are currently putting our team in place.

We are looking for positive, friendly, outgoing, customer focused individuals to join our team on both a full-time and part-time basis, which will include weekends.

Our main aim is to give our customers a fun and memorable experience at Roar and Explore.

We have a fantastic opportunity for someone to run, manage and develop the Café at Roar and Explore. Reporting to the Centre Manager, this person will be responsible for the day to day management of the café. They will be responsible for the overall efficient and effective management of the cafe providing a quality service. They will be responsible for the preparation, cooking and service of foods to agreed standards and specification. They will ensure the efficient and economic use of all resources including stock, staff and assets.

Hours of Work 40 hours per week

Location Roar & Explore, Dairy Farm Centre, Stewartstown Road, Belfast

Job Purpose

To ensure the smooth running and provision of high quality food and drink in the centre café.

The Head Cook’s responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation and cooking of all food on the Café menu with the assistance of the trainee chef.
  • Managing the catering products and services for café in line with quality procedures.
  • Ensuring that there are sufficient supplies to maintain the daily menu, and cleanliness of the Cafe.
  • Developing and maintaining a relationship with suppliers to maximise profit margins.
  • Ensuring the highest quality standards of customer care and service are delivered.
  • Monitoring and reviewing the standards achieved, taking appropriate action to rectify adverse trends identified through audit.
  • Developing and implementing a catering promotional planner to coincide with the centre programmes and events.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety requirements and legislation.
  • Assisting with the implementation and audit all health and safety requirements, including all procedures in relation to food, COSHH, licenses etc.
  • The efficient and effective control of the day to day operations and ensuring that cleanliness and equipment checks are maintained.
  • To negotiate the best deals with suppliers.
  • To design a profitable yet competitive menu
  • To ensure that a rota is in place to suit the daily operations
  • Any other duties of a similar nature related to this post that may be required from time-to-time.

Personnel Specification

Essential Criteria

Experience:

  • Proven experience of food preparation, supervising staff and catered functions, calculating food costs, stock management, food storage and maintenance of Cafe equipment.
  • Ability to manage and train staff

Skills & Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 in food preparation and cooking or equivalent
  • Holder of Level 2 Award in Supervising Food Safety in Catering, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety requirements
  • Basic computer skills to include sending and receiving emails and using Microsoft Office packages
  • Strong interpersonal skills to adapt communications and approach to suit different circumstances.
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to lead and work successfully as part of a team
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo a check via the Access (NI) Service.

Desirable Criteria

  • Minimum 2 years’ proven experience of catering management
  • First Aid Qualification
