Peer Educator (PE) Role Specfication
Title of Position: Peer Educator for the Believe in Youth Alcohol Peer Education Programme
The Believe in Youth Programme are interested in recruiting 4 Peer Educators to be based at Dunlewey Substance Advice Centre offices / Broughshane St, Ballymena. It is envisaged that the successful applications will be aged between 16 – 25yrs and will reflect different genders and cultural backgrounds. Peer Educators will be involved in delivering a street based and group work programme which aims to educate / inform young people and adults about the impact of alcohol.
The successful applicants will receive a training allowance of £100 a week for 15hours practice / training.
Purpose
To educate Young People within the Northern Trust and Social Care Area about alcohol misuse and promote the delay of drinking behaviour through the provision of educational / information and developmental programs.
The Believe in Youth Project is part of “Taking the Initiative to Reduce the Impact of Alcohol” portfolio of services being managed by the Northern Health and Social Care trust and funded by the BIG Lottery.
These are training positions and the people appointed will receive the training necessary to fulfil their duties and enhance their personal and professional development however it will be expected that the successful applicants are able to meet the following requirements
Expectations
• To be able to demonstrate literary and numeracy skills
• To complete all necessary training to take peer education workshops and outreach provision
• To understand the specific topic you will be working on
• To observe a workshop, to co-facilitate a workshop and deliver a workshop
• To have access to transportation suitable to fulfil the requirements of the post.
• To attend regular meetings
• To share the programs philosophy
• To be able commit to the project for a period of 1year
• To maintain confidentiality
• To participate fully in the projects supervision
Desirable Criteria
• Previous knowledge and / or experience of Peer Education Programmes
• Previous knowledge and / or experience of Youth Work / Detached Youth Work or Substance Misuse programmes.
Depending on the level of interest desirable criteria may be used to short list for group interview process.
Supervision
• The peer education team will work directly with the Project Coordinator and staff from both parent organisations, Dunlewey Substance Advice Centre , Northern Ireland Youth Forum
