As a Dementia Support Worker you will provide support and guidance to people with dementia and their Carers; helping to maintain their independence, improving their sense of well-being, and putting them more control of their lives.

Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK and numbers are set to rise to over 1 million by 2025.

Training for Informal Caregivers is a new service that the Alzheimer’s Society provides across North, South, West and Belfast Health and Social Care Boards. This is an exciting opportunity to join the team of trainers and provide training and information to people who are supporting someone living with dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Support service involves dedicated members of staff providing information and guidance to people with dementia or their Carers and wider family or friends. While also helping people understand dementia, cope with day to day living and preparing for the future.

As a Dementia Support Worker you will provide support and guidance to people with dementia and their Carers; helping to maintain their independence, improving their sense of well-being, and putting them more control of their lives.

You will offer support and guidance to your clients in a variety of ways, face to face, by phone, letter or email. You will also assist service users to access other services, providing signposting and referrals, as well as facilitating support groups and other group activities.

We are looking for an individual who possess NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) with an understanding of dementia and the needs of those living with dementia and their Carers. Your ability to assess client needs along with the understanding of the need for client confidentially is essential to providing a high quality service. To be successful in this role you will have excellent non-judgmental communication skills as well as strong organisational and time management skills.

An ability to travel independently around the area is essential for this post. Experience of working with volunteers will be an advantage. A satisfactory disclosure from Access NI will be required before an offer of employment can be confirmed.
