Court Support Volunteers required

North Down & Ards Women's Aid

NDAWA exists to provide advice, support and refuge to women and their children who have experienced or are still experiencing the effects of physical, emotional or sexual abuse. We are looking for talented and conscientious volunteers for Court Support.

This is an unpaid volunteering role - what does the role involve?

The role of the court support service is to provide support to women who are attending court for any reason relating to domestic abuse. Women may need to attend court about child contact, non-molestation & occupancy orders or financial issues.  Volunteers will be trained to provide appropriate support and will work alongside experienced project teams to ensure that women attending court are supported in the best way possible.

Tasks

  • To build a relationship with the project teams and attend meetings when possible.

  • To build relationships with the women using the services.

  • To attend court appointments with women who are using the services.

  •  To be responsible and accountable to the senior management team.

  • To attend relevant training as deemed necessary.

  • To uphold the principles and practices of NDA Women’s Aid.

 

Skills/attitudes required

A supportive, caring and understanding attitude towards the issues faced by women who use our services and have experienced domestic abuse.

Interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate with the women you will be in contact with and the relevant staff.

An understanding of the importance of confidentiality within this role.

Commitment

 ime commitment may vary from week to week. We would ask that volunteers are flexible in their approach and are available on occasion through the day.

Commitment is also required to attend team meetings.

Transport

Required to arrange your own transport to court appointments.

Expenses

Expenses forms are provided from your key worker to claim public transport costs & some other associated costs. Mileage can also be reimbursed at 40p per mile.
