Telecommunity Grant-making Committee, Community Representative

1.0 About the Telecommunity Fund

1.1 The Telecommunity Fund was established with capital from BT management and unions, and the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland.  It exists to support small, locally based grassroots community projects.

The fund is open to constituted grass roots community and voluntary groups and priority is given to applications from small groups, typically with an annual income of less than £200,000, as evidenced in most recent set of accounts.

1.1.1 The fund aims to support one of the following groups:

·       Young people

·       Older people

·       People with disabilities

1.1.2 The minimum grant available is £500 and maximum £1500 however in exceptional circumstances the panel may decide to award larger grants, at their discretion, and in line with the current criteria. 

2.0 The Telecommunity Grant-making committee: 

The Telecommunity Grant-making committee consists of representatives from the community sector, BT, and Unions.  The purpose of the committee is to recommend grant-making priorities and make decisions on grant allocations for the Telecommunity Fund.  

2.1.1 The committee currently has 5 members, 2 BT, 2 Union, and 1 Community.

2.1.2 The committee meet up to 5 times per year allocating around £50,000 per year on behalf of the Telecommunity Fund.

3.0 Appointment of new community representative

The Telecommunity Panel wish to appoint a community representative to their Grant-making sub-committee, who is representative of any of the following groups:

·       Young people

·       Older people

·       People with disabilities

3.1 The specific duties of the committee representative are as follows:-

·    to consider and recommend the priorities for the Telecommunity Fund grant-making for the financial year;

·    to consider the recommendations made by the Foundation’s Grants Team in relation to grant applications and make decisions on these recommendations;

·    to review the impact of grants awarded;

·    to take part in publicity around the Telecommunity Fund’s grant-making. This may include meeting with grantees, formal presentations of cheques, etc;

·    Any other reasonable duties relevant to this committee.
