Board of Trustees - National Children's Bureau - Northern Ireland Representative

National Children's Bureau

We are seeking to appoint two new Trustees to succeed those who will conclude their term of service at the end of this year which includes one Northern Ireland Representative and the potential for one to be appointed as Vice-Chair.

The National Children’s Bureau, headquarters in London and office in Belfast, is a leading national charity and a highly influential and proactive voice for all children and young people, particularly the most vulnerable.  NCB is committed to all children and young people being given equal opportunity to the education, health services and specialist care they need to be safe, secure and to reach their potential.  We specialise in working across a range of critical issues affecting the lives of millions of children with our priority areas currently focused on early years, special education needs and disability, health and social care and education and learning.

NCB is a dynamic, multifaceted organisation at an exciting stage in our development with the implementation of a new, ambitious strategy that will enable us to continue to achieve our overarching priorities over the next five years.  We create and support partnerships between government and charities and between professionals and service providers.  In doing so, we apply the best possible evidence, influence policy and support effective implementation of services that are informed by children, young people, their families and communities.  Our partnership work is a notable strength and makes a credible difference; the Anti-Bullying Alliance, Childhood Bereavement Network, Council for Disabled Children and Sex Education Forum are all part of NCB.  In Northern Ireland, we have championed the use of Outcomes Based Accountability and we convene and lead various cross sectoral groups including the NI Anti-Bullying Forum, the Incredible Years strategic coordination project and the Infant Mental Health regional implementation groups.

We are seeking to appoint two new Trustees to succeed those who will conclude their term of service at the end of this year which includes one Northern Ireland Representative and the potential for one to be appointed as Vice-Chair.  It would be desirable to recruit Trustees with expertise in health and/or mental health or fundraising to support diversifying our income streams but all interested parties are most welcome to apply.  Above all, we are seeking candidates who are committed to championing children’s and young people’s rights and to ensuring that their voice is heard and respected, and encourage applications from people with lived experience of the issues we work on to help us learn from, promote and give voice to this perspective.

The positions on the Board of Trustees are unpaid, though reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
