Responsible to: Full-Time Youth Worker-in- Charge/Nominated Youth Support Worker in Charge

Responsible For: Assisting with the unit programme and the implementation of EA/St Oliver Plunkett’s Youth Club organisational policies.

Job Purpose: To work directly with young people to develop their social education by providing a programme of activities. This post is for staff appointed to undertake duties under the direction of a Worker in Charge or nominated Youth Support Worker.

Main duties and responsibilities:

YOUTH SUPPORT WORKER RANGE – ASSESSMENT SUMMARY SHEET

  1. Assist with the planning and implementation of programmes, related to the “Model for Effective Practice”.
  2. Ensure that young people play an active role in the youth group and work towards a model of youth participation.
  3. Communicate effectively and develop a rapport with young people.
  4. Assist in the development of relationships with the wider community and external agencies.
  5. Assist young people to express and realise their goals.
  6. Challenge oppressive behaviour in young people.
  7. Provide information and support to young people.
  8. Support young people in evaluating youth work activities and the impact of youth work on their development.
  9. Implement St Oliver Plunkett’s Youth Club, Child Protection Policy and work with young people to safeguard their welfare and the welfare of others.
  10. Assist with administrative duties within St Oliver Plunkett’s Youth Club, under the direction of Line Manager.

Ability to work in a team

Ability to work on own initiative

Child protection training undertaken in the last 2 years or the willingness to undertake child protection training prior to commencement

Requirements: Must have at least 12 months experience of youth projects (as participant or support services)

Desirable but not essential:

NIEA Youth Support Worker Certificate or

NI OCN level 2 or 3 Introduction to Youth Work or equivalent.
