The main purpose of the Assistant Group Worker role is to assist the Group Worker to co-ordinate and further develop group work and individual work with disadvantaged young people in the 13-25 age range from North & West Belfast.

The person appointed will assist the Group Worker in the design and delivery of varied programmes for the young people and will mainly work three evenings 1.20 - 8.30pm (Tues-Thurs)  per week. During summer months this may change to daytime sessions to facilitate day trips etc. The individual will spend the majority of his/her time assisting with projects involving young people. In many instances, this will involve face-to-face work with groups of young people including project-based work.  We are looking for enthusiasm and a genuine passion for young people and are particularly keen to hear from people with specialist skills in areas such as art, music or outdoor education.

Requirements

- Have obtained OCN Level 3 or equivalent  in Youth Work or be working towards a  Community & Youth Work Degree.

- 3 years recent experience of delivering personal development group work with young people in the 13-25 age range or similar.

- Experience of working with young people from diverse backgrounds and with challenging needs.  This will include working with young people who are disaffected,   underachieving and/or have social/emotional barriers to participation.

- Experience of working in a team maximising a participative approach with colleagues and young people

-Hold a valid clean UK driving licence

The person must  also be in agreement with the principles and values of Quaker Service and must have a genuine concern for disadvantaged families.  A friendly, understanding, co-operative and inclusive approach is essential. 

This is a fixed term position for 6 months which may be extended subject to funding.
