Assembly Office Constituency Manager (temporary to cover sick leave)

This position is to provide support to the MLA to represent constituents locally and at Stormont.
The post will be appointed on a temporary contract initially for 28 days to cover sick leave (with the option to extend)

 Shortlisting will take place on the 1st of September and interviews will be scheduled for 6th of September, with an intended start date of 11th September.

Assembly Constituency Office Manager

  • Operation of IT & Software packages
  • Assisting with MLA's diary management
  • Responsibility for ensuring that office is fully equipped
  • Responsibility for efficient data and file management to comply with Data Protection Managing and progressing portfolio of casework appropriately
  • Ensuring enquiries are dealt with sensitively and confidentially
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Assisting MLA in preparing for visits, events, questions and motions.
  • Providing secretarial support for meetings as required
  • Responding to correspondence and enquiries from constituents, the media, lobbyists and pressure groups
  • Dealing with complex queries and complaints on Member's behalf, including drafting letters/emails.
  • Liaising with Government agencies, voluntary sector and others to resolve constituency matters
  • Ensuring all casework is logged; monitoring progress and ensuring all identified actions are taken
  • Other duties as required in support of the MLA carrying out their Assembly duties
Criteria

Essential

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent
  • Strong communication skills – verbal and written, and excellent team working skills

  • Minimum of one year’s experience dealing with local government and statutory agencies  

  • Proven ability to use a variety of ICT equipment and software packages

  • Minimum of one year’s experience working in an office environment

  • Ability to effectively plan and organise own workload and co-ordinate other resources to meet deadlines

Desireable
  • Experience of taking the lead on campaigns and lobbying programmes

  • Understanding of Welfare System and impacts of imminent reforms

  • Minimum of one year’s experience of voluntary or community development projects
