Assembly Office Constituency Manager

Reporting to John Dallat, the Assembly Office Constituency Manager will support the MLA by managing the daily affairs of the Constituency Office, as well as supporting and advising the MLA on Assembly matters.

This post will be offered initially on a three month contract with a view to extending the contract for a one year period and the candidate having successfully completed a three month probationary period which is subject to the setting up of the Northern Ireland Assembly.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • ·         Day to day management of Constituency office including administration, budgets, Assembly financial matters
  • ·         Developing and implementing office systems/procedures
  • ·         Responsibility for efficient data and file management to comply with Data Protection
  • ·         Responsibility for ensuring that office is fully equipped
  • ·         Management of constituent casework
  • ·         Assisting with MLA’s diary management
  • ·         Assisting with planning and organising events
  • ·         Providing secretarial support for meetings as required
  • ·         Liaising with groups within the constituency and the general public on the Member’s behalf as necessary
  • ·         Responding to correspondence and enquiries from constituents, lobbyists and pressure groups
  • ·         Dealing with complex queries and complaints on Member’s behalf, including drafting letters
  • ·         Drafting local press releases
  • ·         Drafting constituency-centred Assembly questions
  • ·         Attending surgeries and other meetings as appropriate
  • ·         Other duties as required in support of the MLA carrying out their Assembly duties

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • ·         Third level degree or 4 years relevant experience
  • ·         A high standard or verbal and written communication skills
  • ·         Excellent IT skills including MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • ·         Excellent organisational skills
  • ·         Excellent interpersonal skills
  • ·         Proven track record in multi-tasking
  • ·         A good knowledge of key issues relating to East Derry
  • ·         A good understanding of local political and government infrastructure
  • ·         Must be willing to travel when required

 DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

  • ·         Experience in advice and benefits sector
