We have an opportunity for a part time Advocacy & Information Officer based in Northern Ireland.

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign is the leading UK charity fighting muscle-wasting conditions. We are dedicated to beating muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular conditions by finding treatments and cures and to improving the lives of everyone affected by them.

In addition to funding world-class research to find effective treatments and cures, we provide practical information and advice for individuals and their families. We campaign to raise awareness and bring about change, award grants towards the cost of specialist equipment, such as powered wheelchairs and provide specialist education and development for health professionals.

Main purpose of role:

1. Support people living with neuromuscular conditions requiring advocacy support; sharing information and advice where appropriate;
2. Manage and grow local ‘Muscle Groups’, and similar support groups, engaging and supporting families living with muscle wasting conditions;
3. Gather and present data on services in Northern Ireland such as muscle clinics, hydrotherapy pools and community teams; feeding into a new online ‘map of services’;
4. Recruit people living with the condition to become ‘Advocacy Ambassadors’; offering peer-to-peer advice and support;
5. Assist and support the development of the Northern Ireland Council as a pro-active steering and support group.

Please see the attached job description for more details.

We appreciate the range of skills and experience our staff have to offer. In return for your enthusiasm and commitment we commit to actively developing and supporting you. We also offer a range of benefits including pension, life assurance, and an employee assistance programme.
