Why FOI is important to charities (#DataFridays)
NICVA
This short introductory 1 hour session delivered by the Information Commissioners Office highlights the main issues regarding Freedom of Information (FOI) that charities need to be made aware of.
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 provides public access to information held by public authorities. The Act covers any recorded information that is held by a public authority in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and by UK-wide public authorities based in Scotland.
Although not subject to the legislation, community and charity groups need to be aware of why openness and transparency laws are relevant as well as helpful in the context of their work.
