Sponsored Superhero Walk for Autism Awareness Day

Join Autism NI’s little superheroes on Sunday 2nd April from 10am at Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park for an action packed Sponsored Superhero Walk to celebrate Autism Awareness Day.

SUPERHEROES ASSEMBLE FOR AUTISM AWARENESS DAY

Get your cape and mask at the ready and join Autism NI’s little heroes this Autism Awareness Day for their Sponsored Superhero Walk.

Autism NI are holding a Superhero-themed Sponsored Walk on Sunday 2nd April 2017 at Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park from 10.00am, which will coincide with numerous activities and campaigns organised globally to support the UN designated day for Autism awareness.  The event will see families participate in a balloon launch, meet the Superheroes themselves and even take part in a treasure hunt. The walk will start at 11.00am.

Autism NI’s Fundraising and Marketing Officer, Rachel Gribben said, “We are absolutely delighted to hold a family event in support of Autism Awareness Month this year. Everyone is encouraged to come along and dress up as their favourite Superhero for the day and join in with our fun activities. We chose a Superhero-themed day as children with Autism are unique, especially with their ability to excel at their talents and interests and also their sensory processing can be amplified compared to Superheroes and their ‘super powers’.

As Superhero legend Spiderman says ‘with great power, comes great responsibility’ and we really do have a responsibility as a Charity to raise awareness and understanding of Autism to the wider community. Fundraising events like this are vital in the work we carry out and help us provide life-changing services and support to the 30,000 families affected by Autism in Northern Ireland.”

Autism NI is Northern Ireland’s main Autism charity. Formed in 1990, Autism NI exists to support individuals with Autism and their families and campaigns to raise awareness of Autism in the wider society. The charity supports a network of 20 branches and local support groups across NI and provides life changing services for the 30,000 people affected by Autism. All funds raised by Autism NI remain within Northern Ireland and are used to improve the lives of those affected by this hidden disability.
