Joseph Haydn 7 Last Words...

This Easter, Northern Accents presents Haydn’s astonishing and breathtaking work, ‘Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross’ which was unlike anything that had been heard before.

In 1783, Joseph Haydn was commissioned to write a new work for Easter for the Oratorio de la Santa Cueva in Cadiz, Spain. Theatrical, inventive, raw and soul searching, the resultant ‘Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross’ was music for Easter unlike anything that had been heard before.

This Easter, Northern Accents presents Haydn’s astonishing and breathtaking work (in its 1787 string quartet arrangement), with text for our time and place composed and read by author, Jan Carson (Malcolm Orange Disappears, Children’s Children).

Bookending the performance will be an illuminating, informal pre concert talk by Haydn scholar, Donal Bannister, and a post concert opportunity to meet and talk with the performers and author.

Afternoon rehearsal is open to students of music, art, and spoken and written word. Contact the Crescent Arts Box Office for more details.

The musicians involved are as follows:
