Injection Training for Healthcare Assistants

This course aims to provide participants with an understanding of the correct technique in the general administration of injections and a brief overview of the emergency management of anaphylaxis.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session, participants will have: 

  • Developed an understanding of the related anatomical features of the circulatory, muscular and nervous systems. 
  • Studied  the current guidance and best practice in administering injections. 
  • Discussed storage of injections (including cold chain), holding, consent  and  recording. 
  • Observed the administration of injections and have the opportunity to practice, using a simulated device. 
  • Manage Anaphylaxis according to Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines (2008). 
  • Observed simulated auto injectors being used.

Certificate of attendance will be awarded on completion of the course.

9.30    Introduction to the anatomical features of the Circulatory, Muscular and Nervous systems (1).                     

10.45  Coffee/Tea      

11.00  Introduction to the anatomical features of the Circulatory, Muscular and Nervous systems (2).

1.45  Best Practice in the Administration of Injections:technique, positioning, holding, storage, cold chain, consent and recording.   

13.15   LUNCH

14.00  Anaphylaxis - Emergency Management 

15.15   Demonstration on the use of Auto Injectors and practice in their use
