Exploring Images, Moral Dilemmas and the Impact of Armed Conflict

Humanity in War is a photographic record of warfare around the globe, over the last 150 years. It traces the evolution of the International Committee of the Red Cross since its inception in 1859. But it goes beyond documentation. Every image in in the exhibition urges us to reach out and help one another. The exhibition runs in City Hall, Belfast 04 April - 25 May 2012.

The Red Cross are offering youth workers (and anyone delivering programmes with young people) the opportunity to attend the exhibit in City Hall followed by a free 2 hour training session exploring the power of images, moral dilemmas and the humanitarian impact of armed conflict. Participants will engage in participatory methodologies and consider how they can use images to explore such themes with young people in order to develop their understanding of conflict, empathy, visual literacy and critical thinking.

There are two training sessions available:  Friday 18th May 2012, 9:30am- 12:30pm or Saturday 19th April 10:30am-1:30pm. Participants will meet at City Hall to view the exhibition and then walk to Youth Action, 14 College Square North, for the 2 hour workshop.
