The Giant is Coming to Portadown

Combining interactive installation and live performance the 20-minute event is aimed at six to nine-year-olds and incorporates music, song and movement that tells a magical tale of the giants amongst us.

The Giant is Coming explores what being a giant is like from a child’s perspective and how great things can come from small beginnings. This resonates with the theme of the ‘Land of Giants’ spectacular live show which takes place at the Titanic Slipways on the 30 June (www.landofgiants.info) as part of the London 2012 Festival, the spectacular nationwide celebration running from 21 June until 9 September 2012 bringing together leading artists from across the world with the very best from the UK.

The interactive installation is available for viewing for FREE throughout the week. In the Installation children can step inside a room filled with the giants of literature, they can climb into a place where all perspectives of size change, and they can sneak into a space to reveal the secrets of being a Giant!

There will also be FREE live performances for small groups of 10 on Sunday 3 June and Monday 4 June.  The performance, which will tour in Northern Ireland helps to spread the word about Land of Giants and is inspired by a number of ‘Giants’ that are present in Northern Ireland’s history, both ancient and modern. Places for the magical live performances are very limited.

To accompany the Giant is Coming the Meadows Centre will also be providing giant themed art workshops to keep children thoroughly entertained.

The event will be touring Northern Ireland to highlight the Land of Giants - a unique tale on an epic scale to an audience of 18,000 on the Titanic Slipways on Saturday 30 June.  A highlight of the London 2012 Festival and NI 2012 Our Time Our Place events programme this spectacular show features state-of-the-art digital animation, dramatic special effects, fireworks, breath-taking aerial performances and a cast and crew of over 500 people.

Live performances suitable for children aged 6 -9years old are taking place on Sunday 3 June 2pm, 3pm, 4pm and Monday 4 June 11am, 12 noon, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm.
