Drink Wise Age Well is a major programme of work addressing the challenges of alcohol-related harm in those 50+. It is developing a body of evidence on how to prevent and reduce the negative impact to individuals across the UK, with specific focus in the Western Trust area in Northern Ireland.
This Research highlighted several findings and subsequent recommendations:
Alcohol problems can cost UK employers money in terms of workplace absence and lost productivity.
The latest wave of Understanding Society shows that it is older ages (60-69) of the ‘professional’ occupational class that are most likely to be high risk drinkers
Retirement is one of the most significant life transitions people go through
