Effective communication is essential for a child’s quality of life and can help reduce other behaviour difficulties. Some individuals on the autism spectrum might have developed alternative strategies in order to communicate to others how they are feeling or to get their requests met but these strategies are not always the most appropriate. This workshop will focus on strategies that can help increase communication in individuals with autism. Augmentative and Alternative Communication strategies will also be discussed.

Who should attend?

  • Parents and carers of children with a confirmed diagnosis of Autism or related disorder.
  • Parents and carers of children referred for or under assessment for Autism or related disorder.
  • Individuals involved with families of children with Autism e.g. health visitors, family support workers, social workers, etc.
  • Individuals directly supporting children and young people with Autism e.g. teachers, teaching assistants, education welfare officers, youth workers, etc.
  • Individuals working with or supporting young children with Autism/suspected autism e.g. early years, childcare workers, etc.
  • Those in community and voluntary settings where projects involve working with children and young people with Autism/suspected autism.

Refreshments and light lunch included.
